COME DOWN THE MIDDLE
When heads only or sides only promenade from a square, the other dancers naturally form 2 facing lines. The promenading dancers can walk around the circle half or all the way and then walk in between the lines formed by the other dancers (after these other dancers have done their forward and back; see "promenade"). This latter part is referred to as "coming down the middle." If necessary, couples wait for the next instruction while in the middle facing each other (they DO NOT pass each other). Since dancers are in couples, the normal couples handhold is maintained.
